Your body shape can reveal a lot about your current and future health status. So, with that in mind, are you an "apple" or a "pear " shape?

Note: Measure your waist at the narrowest point of your relaxed stomach. Your hips are measured on the widest place. Enter both measurements in the fields provided below in inches.

To measure your waist and hip circumferences:

Enter your waist and hip circumferences and click on “calculate.”

Please note: WHR is not intended for children and those individuals who are less than five feet in height or who have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or above.

What it all means

For men, a healthy body shape reads less than 1.0, whereas for women a healthy figure should be no more than 0.85.

For both sexes, anything above the respective figures means that your are an " apple" shape - i.e. you're carrying more weight around the waist and upper body than you do on your legs and bum.

Whereas "pear" shaped individuals carry any excess weight around their lower body. As such they're less likely to suffer from heart disease and cardiovascular problems - there is less stress on the heart than if excess weight is carried around above the waist.
