Calculate Your Body Mass Index :: BMI or "Body Mass Index" is an approximation of the body fat percentage (adipose tissue), using a height versus weight calculation. It is not an absolute accurate calculation, as body compositions can vary between individuals. The BMI calculator relies on average body compositions to make the calculation and therefore the values can be misleading for some individuals. As an example, BMI is not accurate with extremely muscular bodies, as muscle is much heavier than fat and throws the calculation off. If your body is of typical makeup for your weight, then BMI can be a very accurate calculation.

Body Mass Index is used to indicate if you are normal, overweight, obese, or underweight. To calculate your BMI, please use the BMI calculator and enter your height and weight.
Body Mass Index, is commonly used to determine whether or not a person is at a healthy weight. A BMI of 20 to 25 is considered healthy; 25 to 30 represents overweight, while a person with a BMI greater than 30 is said to be clinically obese. These figures are considered to be reliable in most cases, except for the following:

  • Growing children
  • Elderly people, whose BMI will likely be low due to decreased muscle mass.
  • Serious athletes and body builders, whose BMI will likely be high due to increased muscle mass.
  • Pregnant or lactating women, whose BMI will likely be higher than normal.

BMI is calculated by dividing the person's weight in kilograms by the square of his or her height in meters. This Younique online calculator will prove useful. They should not, however, substitute for the advice of a qualified health professional.

One variable BMI fails to consider is lean body mass. It is possible for a healthy, muscular individual with very low body fat to be classified obese using the BMI formula. If you are a trained athlete, your weight based on your measured percent body fat would be a better indicator of what you should weigh.
