Food is medicine :: It's a cliché but there really is a huge amount of truth in the phrase "you are what you eat". The food on your plate can be used to repair and rebuild vital structures, contribute to the body's normal chemical functions and, most importantly, provide the fuel to keep you going. You wouldn't put diesel in a Ferrari so why compromise when fuelling something as important as your own body? If you eat the wrong types of fuel, you can guarantee it will end up stored around your waist and hips as fat, not to mention making you feel lethargic and apathetic.

Nutritional assessment and monitoring :: If you are exercising regularly it is important to know what foods to eat to provide enough energy for your workout and replenish energy stores afterwards. If you are looking to lose weight there is one golden rule: "you must create a negative energy balance throughout the day, which means you must expend more calories than you intake". But with all the myths around, it can be difficult to know which foods you should and shouldn't be eating. At Younique Fitness we have qualified nutritional advisors to guide you through every aspect of your diet ensuring that you feel great, look great, and have plenty of energy to get up and go! www.patrickholford.com

The Glycaemic Index :: The glycemic index is a ranking of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on blood glucose (blood sugar) levels. It compares foods gram for gram of carbohydrate. Carbohydrates that breakdown quickly during digestion have the highest glycemic indexes. The blood glucose response is fast and high. Carbohydrates that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the blood stream, have low glycemic indexes. (more...)
